The Children and Youth Census

begins this weekend.

We have a table set up in the Parish Hall

to distribute and collect census forms.

We would like to hear from all families with children.

The information collected from this census

will help us plan curriculum and develop programming

inside and outside of the classroom

for the different age groups.

Please fill in the form (also available here at our website)

and bring it with you or mail it back to the church

by May 18.

The form also provides space

to register for 2008-09 Church School.

Knowing our students for next year greatly

assists the Teaching Ministry Team in our planning.

Gaining Ground—Read for Seeds
The children & youth are participating in the Gaining Ground “Read-for-Seeds” program.  Sponsorships are due this Sunday, May 4!

Gardening Too

Help, learn, get dirty, have fun!  On Saturday, May 3, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., we will be doing hands-on organic gardening at Gaining Ground’s gardens at Thoreau’s birthplace on Virginia Road in Concord.  It’s planting time, and transplanting seedlings into their special place is just one of the many tasks we may be assigned. No experience necessary. The children met Farmer Verena last Sunday, and she will be leading the team that shows us what to do. We’ll carpool or caravan from Good Shepherd parking lot at 12:30.  All over-five are welcome, but we can take only 15 volunteers, and children must be accompanied by parent or other responsible adult.  Sign up in the Parish Hall if you’d like to come. For more information, please contact Gray Wexelblat.

Not Too Serious (N2S) Book Selection for Children & Adults!  We had a super evening discussion last week, and now we look forward to our lunch discussion.  Remember that this book discussion is open to all ages.  This month’s book selection is – a book truly for all ages - George’s Secret Key to the Universe, a children’s book co-written by world-renowned physicist and cosmologist, Stephen Hawking! It probes into the many mysteries of the universe and the moral responsibilities of science, global warming, and space colonization. Mark your calendar for our noontime discussion: Sunday, May 4.

Our N2S selection for May is The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell.  Our discussion will be on Tuesday, May 13, at 7:30pm, led by Aileen Ryder.  We are taking orders for the book through Sunday, April 20.  After that date, you will need to find a copy or go to your local library.  Sign-up sheet is on the Christian Formation table in the Parish Hall.  For more information, contact Carol Brady.
